Municipalities and communities of municipalities

In 2024, vulnerable road users will account for 67% of fatalities in urban areas and 83% of serious injuries, compared with 35% and 51% respectively outside urban areas. Pedestrians alone will account for 31% of fatalities in urban areas in 2024. Vehicle users account for 28% of fatalities in this environment.

However, there is a change in mortality rates according to mode of transport between 2020 and 2024, with significant increases in fatalities among e-scooters users linked to increased post-pandemic use.

Furthermore, the smaller the urban area, the more serious the accidents, as speeds increase due to less dense traffic and fewer intersections. In fact, speed is a factor in 31% of fatal accidents outside urban areas for all vehicles combined (54% for motorcyclists).
