56% of people killed in metropolitan areas are killed in built-up areas, compared with 44% outside built-up areas.
The urban road safety indicators record accidents that occurred during the period 2010-2021 in the municipalities that make up metropolitan areas or urban communities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2021, there were 98 EPCIs with a total population of over 16,638,862.
With 572 people killed in 2021, the territory of the EPCIs with more than 100,000 inhabitants accounts for 19% of road deaths for 25% of the metropolitan population.
In built-up areas, four out of five people killed are vulnerable users (pedestrians, cyclists, electric scooters and motorized two-wheelers). This proportion reaches 88% in Greater Paris.
24% of people killed are motorized two-wheeler users.
