Mortality per million inhabitants per year varies from 24 for Île-de-France to 84 for Corse. 6 out of 13 regions have a rate below the national average of 45, which are the regions Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bretagne, Grand Est, Pays de la Loire, Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France.
Over 2017-2021, 47 people per million inhabitants died in metropolitan France. The Ile-de-France (23) and Hauts-de-France (41) regions have a lower than average risk. The risk is highest in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (72) and Corse (78).
The risk for 18-24 year olds (96) is twice as high as the average (47). It is highest in Occitanie (127), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (128), PACA (129), CentreVDL (139), Corse (148), Bourgogne-F-C (152). The risk for 25-34 year olds is 64, but it is 82 in CentreVDL and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 84 in Occitanie, 89 in PACA and 109 in Bourgogne-F-C. Mortality per million inhabitants aged 65 and over (58) is very high in Bourgogne-F-C (84) and Corse (99); low in Ile-de-France (34). Nevertheless, a moderately high risk may hide a very high risk for the oldest seniors.
